'We will do whatever it takes': Manchester city centre shoppers' resounding message as Covid face masks return

Mancunians have delivered a resounding endorsement to the mandatory wearing of face masks in shops and on public transport as the UK braces itself against the new Covid variant.

Health secretary Sajid Javid took to the BBC's Andrew Marr Show today to explain why mask-wearing from Tuesday onwards was necessary and that PCR tests would be required 'as soon as possible' for all overseas arrivals.

The measures, he said, would ensure that 'we can all continue to enjoy Christmas with our families'. Although the government has stopped short of extending vaccine passports to England, there were those on the streets of the city centre today, who believe much more stringent measures are necessary.
