PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a fatal shooting that they say happened Wednesday night in South Philadelphia. At around 6:54 p.m., police say they responded to the 1800 block of Sigel Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities say they found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck. Police transported the victim to Presbyterian Hospital where they say he was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. No arrest was made in this incident and no weapon was recovered.

PHILADELPHIA - With weeks to spare until students head back to classrooms, the School District of Philadelphia held its first of two job fairs to fill support positions. District officials say 800 people registered for Monday's job fair, which was held at South Philadelphia High School. General cleaners, special education assistant, and various food service positions were some of the opportunities made available to attendees. There is also an open call for bus drivers, that includes a $500 sign-on bonus. SEPTA announced the newest rail line named after one of the most popular convenience stores in the area.  MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - SEPTA's newest Regional Rail station, bearing the name of a popular hometown convenience store, is set to open at the end of the summer.A naming rights agreement, which was announced on Wednesday, confirmed the renaming of the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line to the Media/Wawa Line.Wednesday's announcement represents a major milestone for SEPTA's multi-year project that aims to restore more than 3.5 miles of the Regional Rail service west of Elwyn, to the new Wawa Station. SEPTA trains have not served this area since 1986. This partnership with Wawa is SEPTA's fifth major naming rights agreement since 2010 and just like previous agreements, this one will generate new sources of revenue, which SEPTA says is crucial as they recover from the pandemic."With this station naming rights agreement, SEPTA continues to be an industry leader in finding innovative and cost-effective ways to deliver enhanced services for our customers," said SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T.

Alec Aposotlou BENSALEM, Pa. - Police say a 6-month crime spree has come to an end now that a wanted man is in their custody.Alec Aposotlou is a suspect in more than 80 burglaries of storage units in both Philadelphia and Bucks County, according to Bensalem police.He was arrested without incident Tuesday outside a house in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.Police say he "victimized numerous persons who had their personal effects stolen from storage facilities."After being transported to Bensalem Township Police Department, Aposotlou was charged with several burglary and related charges.

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - A Philadelphia man charged in a double murder in central Pennsylvania two years ago is asking a judge to bar prosecutors from using statements he said he made to police while dealing with drug withdrawal symptoms.Isiah Payne, 34, is charged in the deaths of 28-year-old Mikal Jackson-Stevenson and 52-year-old Natalie Washington in Altoona in May 2020. A 37-year-old woman fired several gunshots, apparently at the ceiling, inside of Dallas’ Love Field Airport on Monday before an officer shot and wounded her, authorities said.

PHILADELPHIA - A bolt of lightning struck the steeple of a Philadelphia church and ignited a fire when a batch of strong storms rumbled across the city Monday afternoon.Firefighters from the Philadelphia Fire Department were called to Grace Episcopal Church on 2600 block of East Venango Street around 4:20 p.m. The steeple of the church, topped with a cross, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The attack left the young mother in a coma and now, her family is pleading for the gun violence to end. On July 13th, police say they responded to Creighton Street and Wyalusing Avenue where multiple shots were fired.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a young man died after he was shot in the head Monday afternoon in North Philadelphia. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 2700 block of North Ringgold Street just before 6:30 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia has seen a long stretch of severe summer heat and, unfortunately, the city's lifeguard shortage is at an all-time high. In May, the city reported needing 150 lifeguards to fulfill positions at community pools. Now, the city's most dedicated lifeguards are working nearly everyday just to keep the pools open and safe for residents. "I was working straight through since the beginning of the summer, but last week was my first time taking off for a whole week," said first-time lifeguard, Milan Howell. Howell has been spending her summer by the pool as she dedicates extra time to work every week.

PHILADELPHIA - City officials have reported two heat-realted deaths in Philadelphia over the weekend as a dangerous heatwave continues to bake the Delaware Valley. A spokesperson for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health told FOX 29 that both deaths happened during the city's Heat Health Emergency. The spokesperson did not share information on the age of the people who died or the circumstances that lead to their deaths. Philadelphia declared a Heat Health Emergency last week as temperatures cranked into the mid-to-upper 90s with humidity. The emergency, along with an Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service for the entire Delaware Valley, will expire Monday night.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESDuring the Heat Health Emergency, Philadelphia has made several resources available to residents to combat the brutally hot condition, including several cooling centers across the city. A special hotline, nicknamed Heatline, will be open to the public Sunday between 8:30 a.m. through 11:59 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - An alleged mail fraud scheme could mean prison time and $1-million-fines for three men from the Philadelphia area.Naod Tsegay, 22, of Collingdale; Fode Bangoura, 20, of Philadelphia; and Zyier Williams, 19, of Philadelphia, are charged with bank fraud, aggravated identity theft, possession of stolen United States Postal Service keys and possession of stolen mail. All three men stole or attempted to steal more than $200,000 by fraudulently altering and depositing personal and business checks stolen from USPS mailboxes, according to the U.S. District Attorney's Office.Victims told officials that their checks were never delivered after placing them in blue collection boxes near their homes.Officials say designated payees and dollar amount were changed on each check, then deposited into the bank accounts of recruits found by the suspects.Tsegay allegedly withdrew or attempted to withdraw the fraudulently deposited funds.

PHILADELPHIA - A shooting in North Philadelphia left one man injured after police say gunfire erupted early Monday morning.The victim reportedly drove himself to the hospital after being shot twice, once in the arm and once in the ankle.A vehicle parked outside the hospital had several bullet holes in the body and window, as well as at least one window completely shattered.Police say at least 20 shell casings were found at the scene on the 1100 block of Stiles Street around 1:13 a.m. No information about suspects or motive were made available.

PHILADELPHIA - A water main break in Northeast Philadelphia is causing traffic delays Monday morning.The break occurred at Roosevelt Boulevard and Goodnaw Street before 7 a.m.Philadelphia Water Department crews, along with police, are currently on the scene.Inner lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard appear to be shutdown in between Grant Avenue and Welsh Road. Traffic on the outer lanes still appears to be flowing as normal.Water, along with mud, sand and rocks, could be seen spreading across the boulevard.Officials tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley that the main break has been shut off, but water is still trickling at this time.This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - If you're driving around Port Richmond Monday morning, you may want to be extra cautious!A giant sinkhole was found at Edgemont and West Mooreland streets, right in the middle of the road.Residents say everyone could hear the sinkhole opening up when it started to develop on Thursday last week."You could hear it during the day," Marge said.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A chaotic scene in West Philadelphia Sunday, as a vehicle slammed into a home.Crews were called to 4200 block of Westminster Avenue just before noon.Police did not release any details regarding how the crash occurred or whether there were injuries to anyone in the vehicle or in the building.The vehicle caused an unspecified amount of damage.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - The stifling heat was dangerous for long periods of time and most people just tried to stay out of it."Aw man, this weekend has been, like, scorching," Frankie Bickard said.Bickard and his daughter stuck around until the Murphy Recreation Center Pool closed Sunday afternoon, savoring every last minute to stay cool. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia has issued a Heat Health Emergency due to the ongoing heatwave in the region.The health emergency took effect Thursday at noon and is set to expire Monday night at 8 p.m. Officials say they maintain the right to extend the emergency if conditions warrant.The city’s declaration of the emergency puts into action heat programs set up for residents, including cooling centers, home visits for residents by special field teams, outreach for the homeless. And, as with any weather emergency, residents are urged to check on their neighbors, especially vulnerable neighbors, such as the elderly.A special hotline, nicknamed Heatline, will be open to the public Sunday between 8:30 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Pete Rose will make an appearance on the field in Philadelphia next month for the first time since receiving a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball.Rose agreed to the lifetime ban in August 1989 after an investigation for MLB by lawyer John Dowd found Rose placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds to win from 1985-87 while playing for and managing the team.Baseball’s career hits leader will be part of Phillies alumni weekend, and will be introduced on the field alongside many former teammates from the 1980 World Series championship team on Aug. 7.Larry Bowa, the starting shortstop on the 1980 team, said during Saturday night’s television broadcast of the Cubs-Phillies game that Rose, 81, would appear at the event.
