Police: Vehicle jumps curb, fatally strikes woman walking in Germantown
PHILADELPHIA - Police are searching for four people in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Germantown. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Thursday. Police say 14th District officers and medics responded to calls for an automobile accident with injuries in the 5400 block of Greene Street. When first responders arrived on scene, they found an unresponsive woman on the sidewalk with severe trauma to her head and body, Small says. Authorities say medics pronounced the woman dead on scene. Small says her identity is unknown at this time and that she appears to be a woman in her 40s or 50s. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, she appeared to be wearing scrubs, but no identification was found. Investigators say a witness told police a white Chevrolet SUV traveling north on Greene Street when it crossed into oncoming traffic, jumped the curb and struck a utility pole, hitting it so hard that it split the pole in two places. After striking the pole, the car drove northbound on the curb and struck the woman walking, authorities say. Police say they believe she was dragged about 15 feet by the car before being run over. According to Small, the witness says after striking the woman, the car got back onto the northbound lane, stopped and then four people fled on foot. Authorities say they do not have any descriptions of the driver and passengers, but the vehicle is on location. Police know who the vehicle is registered to and they will be collecting evidence from the vehicle and the scene. Accident investigators are on location processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, authorities say. Police say four people fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Germantown.

The average price for an EV has surpassed $60K; here are some affordable options
LOS ANGELES - Energy prices are soaring across the world and American consumers are feeling the pain at the gas station and in their wallets. Amid the surge in gas prices, thousands of consumers have flocked to dealerships and secondhand marketplaces in hopes of procuring an electric vehicle to cut costs on fuel, but finding an affordable EV or hybrid is becoming increasingly out of reach for many. In February, the average sale price for an EV surpassed $60,000, according to the consumer data website Edmunds. Despite higher prices for EVs and limited availability, strong demand has more communities feeling increased pressure to add charging stations or risk having drivers pass them by in favor of plug-in-friendly areas. Costs have been coming down over the years, but Ford CEO Jim Farley revealed at the Bernstein Conference in early June that the battery pack in a Ford Mustang Mach-E is still around $18,000 to produce. In response to these soaring costs due to high demand, some manufacturers desperate to enter the market are offering affordable options for electric vehicles. Here are a few of today’s discounted electric rides:View from behind of red Chevrolet Bolt electric car, with logo and California DMV clean air access okay decal visible, in Danville, California, March, 2020. California to test electric Fords and GMs as backup power for homes
home.General Motors and Ford this week announced pilot programs with California's Pacific Gas & Electric Company that will study the use of electric vehicles as backup power sources during blackouts and for energy storage that can help stabilize the grid.Upcoming electric models from both automakers are being developed with bi-directional power capability that allows them to send power from the vehicle's battery back into a home's electrical system.2022 Ford F-150 Lightning In particular, the large battery packs used in electric pickups like the Ford F-150 Lightning and upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV will have energy storage capacities as high as 130 kWH to 200 kWh, which could power an average home for several days when fully charged.Ford already sells a bi-directional charger called the Ford Charge Station Pro for $1,310, about double the price of a standard home charger, before fees for installation or any electrical system upgrades that are needed to support it.Ford CEO Jim Farley told the CERAWeek conference in Houston on Thursday that he doesn't expect Tesla to offer similar capability as it sells solar panels and a Powerwall home backup battery system alongside its electric cars."We don't think Tesla will do this because they have an energy business to protect."2024 Silverado EV RST (Chevrolet)During Tesla's Battery Day event in 2020, CEO Elon Musk discounted the appeal of bi-directionally, also known as vehicle-to-grid, saying the automaker's original Roadster model was equipped with it and no one used it."Vehicle-to-grid sounds good, but I think actually has a much lower utility than people think," Musk said."And it’s obviously very problematic if you get to morning and your car, instead of being charged, it
