PHILADELPHIA - A store worker shot a suspect during a robbery in the Wissinoming section of the city overnight.
The shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. on the 5500 block of Torresdale Avenue. The store worker who fired back at armed robbers was shot by as many as three times and is in critical condition.
Although she was shot, she was able to fire back and injure at least one of the armed robbers. "The female was behind the counter with the manager and these two individuals entered the property and then entered a rear door and went behind the counter.
We believe that's where they were going to commit this robbery," explained Chief Inspector Scott Small. "And that's when there was clearly a shootout between at least one of the perpetrators and the female store clerk who tragically was shot several times."Initially, police believed the 32-year-old store clerk was in stable condition, but have since learned that she is in critical condition and undergoing surgery.
