Police: Shooting erupts during fight at Philadelphia bar, suspect in custody

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are searching for the suspect accused of shooting two people in Kensington earlier this month. According to police, officers with SEPTA Transit Police and the Philadelphia Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2900 block of Kensington Avenue just before 1 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say four teenagers are in the hospital after they were shot in North Philadelphia on Thursday morning. According to Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just before 2 a.m.Police say officers with the 6th District responded to numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots and a shooting near 7th and Wallace Streets. When police and medics arrived on scene, they found four shooting victims in the courtyard of the Spring Garden Homes, according to authorities. Small says two of the shooting victims ran inside a property of the Spring Garden Homes after being shot. According to police, the victims were two teenage boys and two teenage girls. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say all of the teenagers are in critical but stable condition and they are expected to be okay. Small says a 16-year-old girl sustained a serious gunshot wound to the face, while a 14-year-old girl was also shot in the face. The boys, ages 13 and 15, were shot in their arms and legs, according to officials.   Small says 21 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon were found in the courtyard of the complex. Investigators say they believe all four of the victims were standing near the home where two of the teens live. According to police, a revolver was also found on the scene, but they do now know how it relates to the shooting. Authorities say they do not have a motive at this time, but said they will check cameras in the area. This shooting came a few hours after another quadruple shooting in West Philadelphia that left several people injured, including a 2-year-old. It also comes at a time when the city has implemented a curfew for children and teens under 18.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating after quadruple shooting left four people, including one child, injured in West Philadelphia late Wednesday night.A 26-year-old man was found shot in the leg at Creighton Street and Wyalusing Avenue where police say shots were fired around 10:30 p.m. He is said to be in critical conditions.Just a block away, police say two 20-year-old women and two children were found inside a Kia SUV riddled with gunfire.Both women are in critical condition after police say the driver was shot in the back, and the passenger shot in the head.Two children were in the backseat of the car as at least 10 shots were fired, according to police.Police say a 2-year-old boy was shot in the leg, and is in stable condition.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A neighborhood tradition is on hold this year and COVID-19 is not to blame.The West Fest Block Party was supposed to start on Saturday at the Sayre Rec Center in West Philadelphia, but organizers pulled the plug after recent gun violence in the city. The decision is causing quite the controversy as some neighbors are disappointed that the party is off, while others say no one should take any chances right now. "I’m very angry, and I think it’s unfair that we didn’t have a say in it," said Nadia Salaam, a mother in the neighborhood. YUMA, Ariz. - An Arizona woman was stuck in a canal near Yuma for 18 hours after she tried to rescue her dog who fell in on June 6.She held onto dear life as help arrived just before she was about to give up. A train conductor luckily saw her and called for help.The canal current is strong and fast, making the 18-hour fight for her and her 50-pound dog's life nearly impossible while holding onto a tree.The 12-foot embankment was so steep they couldn’t get out."The will to survive is what makes this a great story," says Sgt. Juan Salcido with Wellton Police, who was first on the scene to assist her and pull her and her dog out of the canal.The conductor who saw the woman and her dog was in the eighth train that went by that day."Her body told the story of her constant fight.

Police looking for group of suspects in string of high-end vehicle thefts in New Jersey AVALON, N.J. - High-end vehicles have become the target of a recent crime operation in at least one Jersey Shore town.Police say they received reports that four high-end vehicles were stolen in Avalon during the early morning hours Tuesday.Surveillance footage shows five suspects police are looking for in connection to the thefts.

Police say a man was found floating in a river in Bridesburg on Wednesday morning.  PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating after a man's body was found floating in a river in Bridesburg. According to police, a 37-year-old man was found floating in the river by a person walking by just after 9:30 a.m. Authorities say crews responded to the area near the 3200 block of Buckius Street in Bridesburg and the man was pronounced dead around 9:45 a.m. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESSKYFOX flew over the area and observed several police cars on scene. Police say the man's death is under investigation. 

Police say a 14-year-old girl, who was a person of interest in the beating death of James Lambert Jr., has turned herself in.  PHILADELPHIA - A teenage girl is the latest to turn herself in for the attack on an older man who later died after she and a group of other teens assaulted him with a traffic cone. Police say a group of teen offenders was wanted in connection with the death of James "Simmie" Lambert Jr., 73, in June. According to authorities, Lambert was attacked by the group on the 2100 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue on June 24 at 2:38 a.m. The Philadelphia Police Department released surveillance video of the attack and announced the city’s $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. RELATED HEADLINESThe video appeared to show a group of teens surrounding Lambert and some of them could be seen picking up the cone and hitting Lambert. The City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward that leads to the arrest of a group of "teen offenders" caught on camera hitting a 72-year-old man in the head with objects, including a traffic cone.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man who was ambushed by shooters while walking into his home on Tuesday night, authorities say.According to police, the shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m.

Stolen Range Rover found in Baltimore port, police say, WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. - A stolen Range Rover's alleged journey to Africa was abruptly interrupted by law enforcement on Monday.Police say the vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a house in Washington Township, New Jersey.It was recovered at a port in Baltimore by U.S. Customs agents, with Africa as its final destination, according to a Facebook post by Washington Township Police.Police say a theft operation is targeting high-end vehicles across the state.

Suspect sought in fatal hit-and-run. PHILADELPHIA - A woman is dead after a hit-and-run last week, and now police say they are looking for the person responsible.On July 3, a Nissan SUV was driving on Germantown Avenue when they struck a woman and fled, according to police.The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.Police are now asking for any information regarding the suspect car and hit-and-run driver.

PHILADELPHIA - Starbucks is closing 16 stores around the country because of repeated safety issues, including drug use and other disruptive behaviors that threaten staff.The coffee giant is closing six stores in its hometown of Seattle, six in Los Angeles, two in Portland, Oregon and one each in Philadelphia and Washington. Starbucks said employees at those stores will be given the opportunity to transfer to other stores.Starbucks said Tuesday the closures are part of a larger effort to respond to staff concerns and make sure stores are safe and welcoming.

NEW CASTLE, Del. - Troopers with Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and car in New Castle. According to police, a 2017 Chrysler Pacific was traveling west on Rt. 273 around 8:39 p.m., when the driver attempted to make a left turn Prangs Lane. As the driver of the Chrysler was attempting to turn, the operator of a 2020 Kawasaki Zx6 motorcycle traveling east on Rt.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a man was fatally stabbed in Kensington early Tuesday morning. According to authorities, officers with the Philadelphia Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Kensington Avenue for a report of a person with a weapon around 2:47 a.m. Police say a 69-year-old man was located with a stab wound to the chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESHe was transported to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m., according to officials. Authorities say the investigation is active and ongoing. 

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting incident in Wissinoming that left a man and the shooter injured. According to police, the shooting took place 4200 block of E Cheltenham Avenue at 1:49 p.m.

7-Eleven locations in Southern California early Monday morning, authorities said. At least three of the four shootings are believed to be linked to the same lone gunman.The shootings appear to have occurred after predawn robberies or attempted robberies at the four convenience stores on July 11, or 7/11 — a day when the national 7-Eleven brand is celebrating its 95th birthday by giving out free Slurpee drinks.

WILMINGTON, Del. - Young people are fearing for their safety as they live through an epidemic of gun violence. Now, kids are calling on their local leaders to do something to keep them safe in their neighborhoods. Children in Wilmington, Delaware, pleaded for help as they held signs that detailed the trauma that gun violence causes them during a peace rally on Monday night at Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington. "I’m tired of having to walk somewhere and then stay on my guard," said one teen.Justin Dye, a 14-year-old who is a part of the Stop the Violence Prayer Chain Foundation, helps young people deal with the loss of a loved one due to gun or domestic violence. "I can’t even walk to school.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are searching for a driver they say was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in North Philadelphia after fleeing from a traffic stop.Pennsylvania State Police say the driver took off when they tried to pull them over earlier Monday evening. Police did not chase the vehicle, however Philadelphia police came across a crash that allegedly involved the same car.At least four heavily damaged vehicles were found near 29th and Clearfield streets around 10 p.m.

Officials say three men are injured after they were shot multiple times in Olney on Monday night.  PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting that left three men injured in Olney on Monday night. Police say they responded to a shooting on North Franklin Street at around 5:52 p.m. Upon arrival, police say they found three victims with gunshot wounds. The first victim, a 21-year-old man, was shot three times in his legs and arms, according to police.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a man turned the tables on two suspects during a botched robbery in a Philadelphia neighborhood Monday afternoon.One suspect reportedly tried to rob the 46-year-old victim at gunpoint near Erdrick and East Cheltenham streets around 2 p.m.Police say he fought back, took the suspect's gun and tried to hold him down.A second suspect then rushes his way and started firing shots striking the victim in the leg, according to police.When the victim returned fire, police say both suspects retreated to a car parked down the street and fled.The victim is said to be in stable condition after being transported to a local hospital.Police say 15 shell casing and two projectiles were found at the scene.

DELAWARE - Delaware State Police say they arrested two suspects for multiple robberies in Delaware.Authorities say the reported robberies occurred in the months of May and June.Local troopers have responded to four different robberies ranging from the following:The two suspects are 29-year-old Jaquan Mason of Wilmington, DE and 29-year-old Jinita Wright of Wilmington, DE. On May 1, the male suspect was armed with a handgun at Royal Farm and demanded the employee to hand over money and cigarettes, police say. Troopers say on June 7 the robbery that occurred at local PNC bank was armed. Only this time, with a firearm.

PHILADELPHIA - Growing frustration over spiking gun violence in Philadelphia, and concerns about last week’s shooting at the July 4th celebration, has pushed the controversial practice of stop and frisk back into the conversation.Stop and frisk is just how it sounds: police stop someone and search for weapons and contraband.City Council President Darrell Clarke raised the issue last week in a press briefing after two law enforcement officers were wounded just before the start of the July 4th fireworks. "There are a lot of citizens in Philadelphia who talk about when are we going to talk about stop and frisk in a constitutionally enacted way," Clarke said.While Clarke did not endorse the idea of returning to the practice, which critics say unfairly targets communities of color, he did press for a detailed conversation about the stop and frisk policy. "That's a conversation we're going to have," said Clarke.

Man dies after being shot 13 times Monday afternoon, police say. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are on the scene after they say a man was shot and killed on Broad Street Monday afternoon.The man was reportedly struck after gunfire erupted near the North Philadelphia station for SEPTA's Broad Street Line around 3 p.m.Police say the victim, age 35-40 years old, suffered 13 gunshot wounds throughout his body.He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Police say a man is in custody in connection to the shooting.

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Police have identified two mourners they say were shot and killed while riding in a funeral procession in Upper Darby last week.Tyrese Long, 21, and Khalid Brittingham, 25, were reportedly attending a funeral for a Philadelphia homicide victim when a shooting erupted.While riding in the funeral procession, police say a car pulled up beside the victims and opened fire on their car on the way to Friends Southwestern Burial Ground.Both victims were suffered several gunshots and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.No arrests have been reported in connection to the deadly double shooting. The Upper Darby Police Department shared a photo of a person who they are "looking to identify and speak with." The Upper Darby Police Department shared photos of a man who they are trying to "identify and speak with." Alan Carr has reassured fans he is "fine" after he collapsed on stage with shooting pain in his leg. PHILADELPHIA - Broad Street Ministry is reopening its dining room after a hiatus sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. The non-profit organization, located at 315 South Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19107, helps those in the Philadelphia community who are experiencing poverty.Broad Street Ministry reopened its dining room on Monday for the first time since COVID-19 began and its hours of operations are11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.In 2020, Broad Street Ministry provided a social-distancing alternative in order to continue to feed Philadelphians.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in the hospital after being stabbed during an altercation in Ogontz, according to police. Authorities say 35th District officers responded to the 6300 block of N Gratz Street around 11:21 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - A 16-year-old is in the hospital after being shot in Juniata Park early Monday morning. According to police, officers with the 24th District responded to reports of a shooting on the 1800 block of E Pike Street around 12:24 a.m. The teen was shot once in the chest and once in the hand, according to authorities. He was transported by police to Temple Hospital and placed in stable condition, per officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say no arrests were made and the weapon used in the shooting was not recovered.
