The borough council voted to fire the officers and to hire an outside special counsel, promising accountability and transparency.The report was given to the borough council almost a month ago.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia street was renamed Friday to honor America's oldest living Olympic medalist, Herb Douglas. "If you had told me when I was born that a street would be named after me, I could never fathom that, but here it is," Douglas said. The intersection of Cranston and Ford roads in West Philadelphia now bears the name ‘Herb Douglas Way’ following a Friday commemoration ceremony. Douglas earned the bronze medal in the 1948 Summer Olympics, competing in the high jump. He missed silver to Australia's Theo Bruce by just .5 an inch. Douglas and fellow African-American Willie Steele shared the podium in the event. "I was born 59-years after slavery," Douglas said Friday.

PHILADELPHIA - A man has been charged for threatening the lives of three people, including a baby, and assaulting a police officer, according to the DA's office. According to authorities.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a bicyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a car in Center City on Thursday night. According to authorities, the incident happened at 7:50 p.m. in the area of 23rd Street and Walnut Street. A bicyclist, 28, was traveling south on 23rd Street when a vehicle collided with the bicyclist at the intersection, police say. Officials say the driver remained on scene and medics transported the bicyclist to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. According to police, the investigation is active and ongoing.

The three woman sought by police were captured on store surveillance video stuffing nearly $2k in wigs underneath their shirts.  GLOUCESTER TWP, N.J. - Police in Camden County are searching for three women who they say stole nearly $2k in wigs from a local beauty shop. The Gloucester Township Police Department shared a surveillance video of the three women inside Coco Beauty Supply on Berlin-Cross Keys Road on July 20. According to police, the suspects went to the back of the store and tried on wigs for several minutes. The women then stuffed nearly $2k worth of wigs underneath their shirts and left without paying, police said. Investigators are asking anyone with information on the suspects to contact the Gloucester Township Police Department. 

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. - A New Jersey woman was arrested after investigators said she posed as a state worker and knocked on a family's door to inquire about their infant daughter.Love Hodge, 29, was charged with Impersonating a Public Servant, Burglary and additional offenses. Officers from the Maple Shade Police Department were called to a home on Sunflower Path on July 23 for reports of a suspicious person. The caller told police that a woman came to her door claiming to be an employee with the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency. Police say the phony employee did not show identification or a business card, and inquired about the woman's 5-month-old daughter.

The family of 44-year-old Maurice Pinkard gave an emotional plea about getting justice for the husband, father and grandfather fatally struck by a vehicle in Upper Chichester Township.  UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The family of a 44-year-old man killed in a hit and run in Pennsylvania is making an emotional plea for people to come forward with information. Police say troopers responded to mile marker 2.4 on I-95 north in Upper Chichester Township on Saturday around 9:12 p.m. According to authorities, troopers found Maurice Pinkard, a motorcycle and a pick-up truck after they were all struck by a vehicle. State Police say a 44-year-old man died after he was fatally struck by a blue Ford F-150 that veered into the shoulder and hit him on Saturday night. The search for the vehicle and the driver involved is ongoing.Investigators say it was determined that a blue Ford F-150 traveling in the right lane on I-95 swerved onto the shoulder, striking Pinkard, who was filling his wife's car with gas after she ran out, and two other vehicles. Maurice's wife Caprice, four of their six children and one of their grandchildren joined Good Day Philadelphia to discuss the tragedy and their search for justice. The family of 44-year-old Maurice Pinkard, who was killed in a hit-and-run in Upper Chichester Township, speak with FOX 29's Mike Jerrick about how Maurice's death has impacted their family.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are searching for a burglary suspect accused of stealing a safe from a North Philly pizzeria. According to authorities, the incident occurred on July 23 at 5:31 a.m. Police say the suspect entered through the front door of the pizzeria on the 100 block of Diamond Street. He then walked behind the counter and removed the safe with $20,000, according to officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say the suspect was wearing a brown towel on his head and dark-colored clothing during the incident. Police released surveillance video and images of the suspect both inside and outside of the pizzeria. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip. Police say they are searching for the person seen here with a brown towel on their head and dark-colored clothing.

PHILADELPHIA - A new grocery store located in North Philadelphia is working to combat the neighborhood's food desert by providing residents with quality groceries. The new store, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, opened on Ridge Avenue in North Philadelphia on Thursday.The store's purpose is to serve the Sharswood community, which was considered a food desert before the opening of the new store, the company says. The United States Department of Agriculture defines a food desert as an area where residents have limited access to a variety of healthy foods due to limited income or living far away from healthy resources. According to Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, before the opening of the new store, the closest grocery store was more than a mile away and was known for high prices. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAdditionally, the new store has created 30 new jobs for members of the community and it will give residents big savings on quality groceries. In celebration of the store's grand opening, customers were given the chance to enter a drawing to win $1,000 worth of groceries. 

PHILADELPHIA - A law firm on Wednesday filed a class action lawsuit against SeaWorld, the parent company of Sesame Place, seeking millions in damages for alleged discrimination during a family's visit to the amusement park earlier this year. Lawyers from Murphy, Falcon & Murphy held a press conference Wednesday in Philadelphia alongside Quinton Burns and his daughter Kennedi. They claim the father and daughter visited the park on Father's Day and the 5-year-old was snubbed by several characters during a meet-and-greet. Attorney Malcolm Ruff said Kennedi was ignored "among a sea of white children" who the characters interacted with instead.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a woman suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg when a fight inside a Philadelphia wedding spilled outside the venue. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 4200 block of McAllister Street around 9 p.m. for reports of gunshots. Police found a 26-year-old woman suffering a gunshot wound to the leg and brought her to Temple University Hospital where she was placed in stable condition, police said. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that a fight between mostly women broke out inside the wedding and spilled into the street when gunshot erupted. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESSmall said it's believed that both the victim and shooter were guests at the wedding.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a fatal shooting that they say happened Wednesday night in South Philadelphia. At around 6:54 p.m., police say they responded to the 1800 block of Sigel Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities say they found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck. Police transported the victim to Presbyterian Hospital where they say he was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m. No arrest was made in this incident and no weapon was recovered.

HOUSTON - New details are emerging regarding an accused predator that allegedly took an 11-year-old girl from her Missouri City home.27-year-old Jose Paniagua is now charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14. RELATED: Six men charged with solicitation of minors in Houston-areaAccording to court records, he bound the 11-year-old's hands and forced himself on her several times after first meeting the little girl online earlier this month. "So for the parents watching out there, if your kid is 13-years-old or younger, no social media whatsoever," says Tech Expert Juan Guevara Torres. That’s the recommendation from tech professionals like Torres, because it was in the chatting app Discord where the 11-year-old victim is said to have met accused sexual predator, 27-year-old Jose Paniagua, who is actually on probation in a different county for online solicitation of a minor. MORE CRIME AND PUBLIC SAFETYAccording to court records, the 11-year-old first thought she was talking and meeting up with a 13-year-old boy. Those court documents say on July 9 at Paniagua’s Houston apartment the 11-year-old was forced to have intercourse multiple times and her hands were bound with a leather belt. A sexual assault nurse quoted in court documents say markings were left on the child's wrists. Also, according to those legal records, Paniagua told police he picked up the 11-year-old and took her to his apartment several times beginning July 3, after meeting the 11-year-old online and Paniagua told investigators he first thought the little girl was a 22-year-old woman."When you’re 13 and below, you are very trusting, and you’re developing a lot of the street smarts.

PHILADELPHIA - With weeks to spare until students head back to classrooms, the School District of Philadelphia held its first of two job fairs to fill support positions. District officials say 800 people registered for Monday's job fair, which was held at South Philadelphia High School. General cleaners, special education assistant, and various food service positions were some of the opportunities made available to attendees. There is also an open call for bus drivers, that includes a $500 sign-on bonus. SEPTA announced the newest rail line named after one of the most popular convenience stores in the area.  MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - SEPTA's newest Regional Rail station, bearing the name of a popular hometown convenience store, is set to open at the end of the summer.A naming rights agreement, which was announced on Wednesday, confirmed the renaming of the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line to the Media/Wawa Line.Wednesday's announcement represents a major milestone for SEPTA's multi-year project that aims to restore more than 3.5 miles of the Regional Rail service west of Elwyn, to the new Wawa Station. SEPTA trains have not served this area since 1986. This partnership with Wawa is SEPTA's fifth major naming rights agreement since 2010 and just like previous agreements, this one will generate new sources of revenue, which SEPTA says is crucial as they recover from the pandemic."With this station naming rights agreement, SEPTA continues to be an industry leader in finding innovative and cost-effective ways to deliver enhanced services for our customers," said SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T.

Alec Aposotlou BENSALEM, Pa. - Police say a 6-month crime spree has come to an end now that a wanted man is in their custody.Alec Aposotlou is a suspect in more than 80 burglaries of storage units in both Philadelphia and Bucks County, according to Bensalem police.He was arrested without incident Tuesday outside a house in the Tacony section of Philadelphia.Police say he "victimized numerous persons who had their personal effects stolen from storage facilities."After being transported to Bensalem Township Police Department, Aposotlou was charged with several burglary and related charges.
