Perth Prison has gone into lockdown with all inmates self-isolating due to a major coronavirus outbreak. Yesterday 117 individuals were confirmed to have tested positive for the virus at the Edinburgh Road facility – a rise of 112 since last Tuesday.The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) has confirmed that as a precautionary measure, all inmates are currently in isolation while mass testing is being carried out.This means prisoners do not have access to court or solicitor visits, family visits or use of the gym but do have access to open air and showers, as well as their mobile phones.The SPS said a “significant number” of affected prisoners did not have symptoms.HMP Perth holds an average of 678 prisoners per day and is home to male offenders.
