People urged to keep shopping at Trafford Centre as owners go into administration

Trafford Council has expressed “serious concern” after Intu, which owns the popular shopping outlet as well as Manchester Arndale, today declared its collapse.The firm has been teetering on the edge of collapse for a number of weeks and employs 3,000 people directly across the UK, while a further 102,000 work for the shops in its shopping centres.Intu had been grappling with nearly £5 billion worth of debts, built up before and during the coronavirus pandemic, but in Trafford, the news is particularly bad for the borough.The Council is concerned about the impact on the borough in terms of potential job losses and the collapse of businesses.
