PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver on route taking a passenger through North Philadelphia was shot and severely injured on Wednesday night, authorities say. According to police, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Officials say when officers arrived on scene, they saw the vehicle, a Honda CRV, that jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. A 34-year-old driver was slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials said. Officials say the passenger told detectives she heard about five or six gunshots before the vehicle's windshield broke, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, jump the curb and crash. According to investigators, at least one bullet went through the driver's rear headrest. Small says the passenger is extremely lucky she was not also struck by gunfire. Police say six spent shell casings were discovered on scene. Investigators do not know if the rideshare driver was targeted or was struck by stray gunfire, Small says. PHILADELPHIA - As students prepare to head back to the classrooms, parents and educators worry about school safety amid Philadelphia's worsening gun violence crisis. Mayor Jim Kenney joined school district leaders on Monday for an update on back-to-school safety and programs for the 2022-2023 academic year. Chief of School Safety Kevin Bethel said the district's plan will rely on a mix of school security officers, city police and parents to keep students safe. Philadelphia's public school system is one of the largest in the country, responsible for approximately 114,000 students. COATESVILLE, Pa. - Authorities are searching for a Pennsylvania man who allegedly followed a woman home and opened fire on her after she bumped into him at a nearby grocery store. Driver slams into patrol car, hits woman outside of police station in Nicetown-Tioga, police say

NICETOWN-TIOGA - An officer was hurt and a woman was badly injured when a car slammed into a police cruiser and hit a pedestrian Friday night in Nicetown-Tioga. Investigators said a police cruiser was pulling out of the 39 District headquarters on the 2200 block of West Hunting Park Avenue when a green Ford Crown Victoria slammed into the patrol car then hit a 58-year-old woman.
