Namal & Chamal Rajapaksa get Chairman posts in Parliament

COLOMBO (News 1st); Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa on Thursday (9) was appointed as the new Chairman of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations of the Sri Lankan Parliament.Moreover, MP Chamal Rajapaksa was unanimously appointed as the Chair to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for the Fourth Session of the Ninth Parliament on Thursday (08).MP Ali Sabri Raheem proposed the name of Chamal Rajapaksa and State Minister Vijitha Berugoda seconded it.Accordingly, matters taken up during the Third Session of the Ninth Parliament which are in pending status were agreed to be taken into future consideration. Moreover, it was also discussed to hold a workshop for the heads of media organizations with the coordination of this committee.It was also decided in the committee to hold a workshop to educate Members of Parliament regarding ethics and privileges.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – A special commemoration speech to mark the 55th death anniversary of the late D.A. Rajapaksa was held yesterday (24) under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Nawarangahala in Colombo.This ceremony was organised by the Rajapakse Memorial Educational, Cultural and Social Services Foundation, and was presided over by the Venerable Anunayake of the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya, Head of the Minuwangoda Patthaduvana Bhikshu Training Institute Venerable Nadagamuwe Vijaya Maitri Thero.Professor Samitha Hettige of the University of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia delivered the keynote address on “The Belt – Road: Lessons for Sustainable Development”.The book containing the Commemoration speech was also presented to the President.Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena laid a floral tribute at the statue of the Late D.

Sri Lankan Minister hints at work hour changes to save time, fuel, and reserves

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa has hinted that working hours should likely be changed as a solution to the morning traffic in Colombo and suburbs.He made these comments on Monday (21) after he was delayed by traffic in attending an event in Kaduwela.“I was delayed by 15 minutes to reach this location. The reason was the traffic and the congestion of vehicles on the road,” said the Minister adding that there needs to be a focus on reducing traffic ac well.He suggested that consideration needs to be given to travel convenience and work hour convenience, thereby reducing fuel consumption and protecting the foreign reserves.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Minister Chamal Rajapaksa was met with strong resistance from a local monk during an event to solve issues pertaining to Mahaweli lands in Hambantota on Thursday (13).A heated argument broke out when two factions claimed that owned the land in which the temple, the monk represents, was located at.As the argument intensified, security personnel decided to remove the monk identified as the Chief Incumbent of the Sooriyawewa Maha-Ara Nigodharama Temple, from the premises.The Venerable Thero alleged that the issues were caused by Minister Chamal Rajapaksa.However, the minister said the issues surrounding lands will be solved.
