PHILADELPHIA - Plumes of jet black smoke and raging flames fill the skies as large concrete slabs of concrete come crumbling down.That was the scene on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia Sunday morning as an overpass of the critical roadway collapsed after a tanker fire erupted just feet below.The devastating collapse has caused major concerns for commuters and residents, leaving several questions unanswered: how did it happen; was it preventable; can the bridge be re-built?RELATED COVERAGE: Commuter Alert: Alternate routes, SEPTA changes mapped out to avoid collapse on I-95 in PhiladelphiaAmir Yaghoob Farnam, an engineering professor at Drexel University, stopped by Good Philadelphia Monday to break crown the collapse, and answer some of those questions.The engineering expert says after analyzing photos and videos, the collapse was likely  the result of two things that just don't mix well - heat and steel.Farnam says the I-95 overpass was constructed with concrete reinforced by girders made of steel, which is very susceptible to heat."Because of extreme heat, steel can lose 40 to 50 percent of its strength," he explained.A tanker truck fire caused an overpass on I-95 to collapse on Sunday morning. PHILADELPHIA - Three people are dead after a car crashed into a SEPTA station in Kensington, authorities say. Police say a car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a turn-style, pedestrians and then the Allegheny Avenue SEPTA station.  Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says the crash happened around 2:45 a.m. when an officer on detail at Kensington Avenue and Allegheny Avenue saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer heard the vehicle first and believes it was "easily going 100 miles per hour," Small says. Authorities say the car jumped the curb and hit a turn-style, hit three pedestrians and then SEPTA station building. Small says the crash was "really gruesome" as one of the victims was decapitated and their body was dismembered and burned due to a car fire that started after the crash. The body of another victim believed to be a female was severely mangled and crushed, according to police. Small says the crash scene was so brutal that all three victims were pronounced dead and the medical examiner is on scene. Police say the driver of the car and two pedestrians died as a result of the crash and another person was transferred to Temple University Hospital. Due to the incident, the Allegheny Station is being bypassed and shuttle buses will run in both directions between Somerset and Tioga. Service at the SEPTA Allegheny Avenue Station will be bypassed and shuttle buses will be available after a fatal crash into the station.

CALN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A collision in Caln Township has left one route closed down as authorities work to clean up debris. The incident happened at approximately 6:40 a.m.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. - One person has died following a crash on Route 42 in Gloucester Township, New Jersey Friday morning, according to authorities. FOX 29’s Bob Kelly reports the crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. Friday morning near Black Horse Pike. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes, and only the left lane was open through most of the morning. SKYFOX was over the scene around 7 a.m.

HUNTING PARK - A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being involved in a car crash in Hunting Park, according to police.The crash happened near Old York Road and West Erie Avenue shortly before 6 a.m., the Philadelphia Police Department said. FOX 29's Bob Kelly said the crash happened when a Philadelphia police officer was rushing a gunshot wound victim to a nearby hospital. A SEPTA police officer who arrived first to the scene took both the officer and gunshot victim to Temple Hospital.Another car with significant front-end damage was seen near the intersection of West Erie Avenue.A police officer was injured during a crash Wednesday morning in Hunting Park, police said.

PHILADELPHIA - Minor delays are expected throughout the morning as road crews work to upright an overturned tractor-trailer on the inbound side of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The accident happened near the 5th and Race Streets shortly after midnight.Police have not said what caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle and flip onto its side. BENSALEM, Pa. - A crash involving a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles is impacting traffic on both sides of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Thursday morning.FOX 29's Bob Kelly reports a tractor-trailer traveling westbound near the Route 1 exit for Philadelphia/Bensalem struck the concrete barrier.The crash pushed the barrier into the eastbound lanes, striking at least four cars.

FOGELSVILLE, Pa. - An accident involving two tractor-trailers has closed the westbound lanes of I-78 near Fogelsville.The impacted stretch of highway is west of the Northeast Extension between Route 100 and New Smithville. SKYFox was over the scene of the accident early Wednesday morning and showed gridlocked traffic as travelers were forced to divert. FOX 29's Bob Kelly says travelers in the area should use Route 222 if they're heading westward.
