COLOMBO (News 1st) – A letter claiming to contain an order made to all District Secretaries notifying them to refrain from accepting bonds for the Local Government Elections is currently making its rounds on social media.The circular contains the signature of the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs.Ministry Secretary Neil Bandara Hapuhinna noted that the Cabinet that met on Monday (9) had instructed him to order all the District Secretaries to refrain from accepting the bonds from candidates until further notice.However, the Commissioner General of Elections had ordered all District Returning Officers to continue to accept the bonds by the candidates, noting that as per the powers vested with the Election Commission via the Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Act Returning Officers have been appointed for the respective districts.Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake slammed the government's efforts to delay the elections.

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police on Sunday (30) detained two men for attacking the vehicle of JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake with eggs.The incident had taken place at a JVP meeting in Kalagedihena, Nittambuwa.Police said that the two men attacked the vehicle with eggs after it was parked outside the venue and after Dissanayake had entered the premises.The two men were detained by the organizers and handed over to Sri Lanka Police who later admitted them to the Wathupitiwala Hospital.

COLOMBO (News 1st); JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake was summoned to the Police Unit of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization, appointed by the present President, on Wednesday (26).He was questioned with regard to the Anti-Corruption Committee that functioned during the period of the Government of Good Governance or the Yahapalana Government.Dissanayake provided a statement to the Police Unit for almost two hours.“This is the first time in Sri Lankan history that a Presidential Commission was appointed to make observations on the report of another Presidential Commission that was appointed to investigate the same events,” said Dissanayake.Dissanayake has already filed an application with the Court of Appeal citing concerns over the Presidential Commission.Speaking to reporters after providing his statement, Dissanayake said the JVPs struggle against corruption will continue and it is not merely against one person or an institution, but a struggle against the entire group of corrupt individuals.He also called on the government to step down as it has failed to keep any of the promises made to the people.
