PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man was sentenced to nine-years in prison for illegally possessing a loaded gun inside a ransacked store during the civil unrest in 2020. Federal prosecutors say 24-year-old Mashaq White was found by police inside a trashed Rite-Aid at 57th and Chestnut street in West Philadelphia on June 1. According to investigators, White had a firearm loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition. Officers who responded to the store for reports of a burglary saw White and another person drilling into an ATM towards the front of the store, according to prosecutors. White pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon last October. United States Attorney Jacqueline C.

  PHOENIX - Eight people were rescued from Camelback Mountain after multiple members of their hiking group began suffering from heat-related illness Thursday afternoon, Phoenix fire officials said.A women's church group had reportedly started hiking Echo Canyon Trail earlier in the morning for a retreat. Fire officials say the group consisted of women from Alabama, Tennessee, and California, and that they were filming for a documentary called "Bad Girls Gone God," where they embark on strenuous activities to get closer to God.The hikers reportedly told fire crews that they did not do their research before starting the hike at 7 a.m. Several of the hikers were wheeled down the trail, and two had to be brought down by helicopter.

COVID-19 in British Columbia hospitals held nearly steady over the past week, but the number of admissions appears to be trending steadily downward.As of Thursday there were 273 cases in hospital, a one-week decline of just three, and 28 cases in intensive care, a one-week increase of nine, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.Under B.C.’s “census” reporting model, all positive cases are counted regardless of the reason the patient was admitted to hospital.The BCCDC also reported 642 cases for the week ending June 18, though due to restrictions on PCR testing the true figure is likely significantly higher.Just over 12,200 tests were performed the week ending June 18, and the province-wide test positivity rate was 7.3 per cent.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento fire crews used about 4,500 gallons of water to fully extinguish a Tesla that kept re-igniting and then ended up submerging the high-tech car into a makeshift pond to fully quell the blaze. The white Tesla was fully involved with fire when the fire crew arrived at the scene earlier this week, according to the fire district's Facebook post. The car was parked in a wrecking yard for dismantling after it was greatly damaged from an accident in early June. It "took a significant amount of time, water, and thinking outside the box to extinguish," fire crew said. Firefighters knocked the fire down, but the car kept re-igniting in the battery compartment. SEE ALSO: San Mateo County fire nearly contained, but power not fully restoredFire officials moved the car on its side to gain access. "Even with direct penetration, the vehicle would still re-ignite due to the residual heat," officials said. In the end, the crew and the wrecking yard staff successfully created a small pit filled with water and submerged the battery compartment into the water. No injuries were reported. Teslas and other electric vehicles have been known to have issues with fires, especially with the batteries. It can be difficult to put flames out because the vehicles' lithium-ion batteries keep burning until all the energy is released. It can take as long as 24 hours to put out, according to a guide for first responders for the Tesla Model S. This story was reported from Oakland, Calif. Fire crew moved to the Tesla on its side to gain access to the battery compartment, officials said.

This included presentation and analysis of trend of covid-19 cases, daily & active cases, positivity and deaths; testing status along with state-wise weekly tests per million, RT-PCR share in weekly tests; genome sequencing; and vaccination status.  The union health minister stressed on the need to focus on districts reporting high case positivity, undertake adequate testing (with higher proportion of RT-PCR) and effective covid-19 surveillance to assess and control the spread of infection in a timely manner, stated the government release.  He exhorted to increase pace of vaccination including booster doses in districts reporting high cases.
