The number of people claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) has fallen by just 3,600 in the last week. In total, 206,341 people received the PUP today, with €61.3m due to be paid to them tomorrow.
However, today's numbers do not take account of the decision to impose more severe restrictions on Dublin last Friday. The numbers receiving the payment is now down 65% from its peak in May.
6,333 people closed their claim over the past week, with 4,568 due to receive their final payment tomorrow. The accommodation and food service sector saw the biggest drop in claims, followed by wholesale and retail, repair of motor vehicles and education.
