Health Service Executive Chief Executive Paul Reid has said most people waiting on their second dose of AstraZeneca will have received that dose "in the next five weeks".
Speaking on Virgin Media News, Mr Reid said a substantial amount of the people waiting on the second dose will have received it by 19 July.
He also said the administration of that vaccine would not delay the administration of vaccines to younger cohorts. Taoiseach Micheál Martin earlier told the Dáil that close to 58% of adults have had a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
He said the vaccine programme had a "high level" of participation and "this is giving a very good level of protection to society".
