Firearms stolen from Pennsylvania gun store recovered after police chase ends in crash on NJ highway: sources

TRENTON, N.J. - A police pursuit that ended in a crash on a New Jersey highway led to the discovery of firearms stolen from a Pennsylvania gun store, sources say.FOX 29 was on scene at Rt. 29 in Trenton near the Calhoun Street Bridge, where Trenton and Middletown Township Police were investigating and collecting evidence. Police say officers were chasing the car before it crashed on the New Jersey highway. Evidence collected from the vehicle's trunk included multiple firearms, both assault rifles and handguns, with tags from a gun store. Sources tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley, that the chase began in Pennsylvania at a gun store in Bucks County. Five people were captured on surveillance video using a Kia, reported stolen out of Philadelphia, to access the second story of the LugerMan gun store in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, sources say. While inside, the suspects broke glass cases and stole the firearms, per police sources. As officers from the Middletown Township Police Department arrived on scene, they chased the Kia and used stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Law enforcement sources say the vehicle made it over the Calhoun Street Bridge, where Trenton Police got involved, capturing three of the five suspects. TRENTON, N.J. - A police pursuit that ended in a crash on a New Jersey highway led to the discovery of guns, officials say. FOX 29 was on scene at Rt. 29 in Trenton near the Calhoun Street Bridge, where Trenton and Middletown Police were investigating and collecting evidence. Evidence collected included multiple guns, both assault rifles and guns, with tags from a gun store found in the vehicle's trunk. Authorities say officers were in pursuit of the car before it crashed in the area. Threats prompt 2 Pennsylvania high schools to switch to remote learning Friday, officials say

PENNSYLVANIA - Two high schools in Pennsylvania closed their doors out of an abundance of caution and switched to remote learning on Friday due to threats, officials say. Students and staff at Pennsbury and Neshaminy high schools will be remote after both schools received threatening messages. An announcement posted on the Neshaminy High School website says the school received tips containing screenshots from social media alleging a threat against the school on Friday. Middletown Township Police launched an investigation to find the source of the threat, but school officials say the high school switched to remote learning out of an abundance of caution. This announcement posted to the Neshaminy High School website details information about a threat made against the school. Officials at Pennsbury High School say the school also received a threat against the school for Friday. RELATED: State Police investigating series of 'false' threats made against schools across PennsylvaniaOfficers with the Falls Township Police Department were notified, and the department is investigating the source of the threat, according to a school announcement. Bucks County town wants 'disruptive' fire siren replaced with alert system

PHILADELPHIA - The fire siren at Langhorne-Middletown Fire Station doesn't sound often, but when it does, the whole community knows. The volunteer fire station located in a rural Bucks County suburb averages less than two calls per day, and received less than 650 last year. "The only time that siren blows is when somebody calls 911, so we're not blowing it for the heck of it," Fire Chief Frank Ferry told FOX 29's Hank Flynn. Still, a growing number of community members have called for the "disruptive" siren to be removed in favor of a more advanced alert platform. "It's a quiet town, it's like Mayberry here, and the siren is disruptive," Councilmember Scott Haldeman said. "I took a couple of years to investigate all these other fire departments and spoke with them, and they shut it off because they say it's not needed, so why is it needed here?" Bucks County spraying for West Nile virus in communities it's been found

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Officials in Bucks County say they have started spraying for mosquitos in areas where colonies of West Nile Virus-carrying insects have been found."If we have an area where we have positive mosquitoes in a number it might spill over to the human population we set up spraying in those areas," Bucks County Environmental Health Director Phil Smith said. Most people infected with the virus do not feel sick, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other flu-like symptoms, and about one out of 150 infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, illness, according to the agency."If you’re over 50 with a suppressed immune system and go on a full-blown West Nile virus with meningococcal symptoms with, extremely high fever, you could require hospitalization," Smith warned. The Pennsylvania Health Department has reported four West Nile virus cases, and officials says that number can multiply quickly as mosquitoes breed and potentially carry the virus to humans.

SEPTA announces new rail line coming to Delaware County in August

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. - SEPTA's newest Regional Rail station, bearing the name of a popular hometown convenience store, is set to open at the end of the summer.A naming rights agreement, which was announced on Wednesday, confirmed the renaming of the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line to the Media/Wawa Line.Wednesday's announcement represents a major milestone for SEPTA's multi-year project that aims to restore more than 3.5 miles of the Regional Rail service west of Elwyn, to the new Wawa Station. SEPTA trains have not served this area since 1986. First State Brewing crafts special brew to support Ukrainian defense forces
