A HSE-run nursing home in Dublin - which was subject to a protected disclosure in 2020 following the deaths of over 20 residents due to Covid-19 - was not compliant in training and staff development when it was inspected by HIQA earlier this year.
The inspection by the Independent Watchdog of the Phoenix Park Community Nursing Units (also known as St Mary's Hospital) noted there was a Covid-19 outbreak in the centre prior to the inspection in January, which mainly effected staff.
The unannounced visit by inspectors found the training and staff development as well as the system of record keeping were not compliant with regulations.
However, the home was found to be compliant in all other areas. Over the course of the two-day inspection, staff training records were requested on six occasions, but these were not supplied.
