Graphs showing a rise in the number of coronavirus cases aren’t as bad as they seem, expert have said. It comes the UK's top scientist after Sir Patrick Vallance warned the outbreak is doubling every week and said by mid-October we could see 50,000 new cases every day.
Ahead of stricter lockdown measures being introduced, he said: "Let's say there were 5,000 today, it would be 10,000 next week, 20,000 the week after, 40,000 the week after, and you can see that by mid-October, if that continued, you would end up with something like 50,000 cases in the middle of October, per day." However, other experts have warned the model for coronavirus growth is a "worst case scenario" - and one not seen in some of the worst-hit countries in Europe.
