Researchers observed the outcomes of up to 25 participants living with HIV who underwent a transplant with cord blood stem cells for cancer treatment, hematopoietic disease, or other underlying diseases, the news release continued. The patient was a woman of mixed-race ancestry and was HIV-positive for four years, according to researchers at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) on Tuesday. She was also diagnosed with leukemia and was in remission for her cancer after chemotherapy treatment, the news release continued. In 2017, the patient received the stem cell treatment supplemented with adult donor cells from a relative and by day 100, there was no HIV detected. Man, 26, killed in broad daylight shooting in East Germantown, police say

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say a man had died after he was shot multiple times in broad daylight Tuesday.The incident occurred on the 500 block of East Duval Street in East Germantown around noon.Police say the victim, a 26-year-old man, was shot three times in the head. Responding paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered. The incident marks the second fatal shooting in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

The resignation comes amid the so-called ‘“freedom convoy” protests that have taken over much of downtown Ottawa for weeks.The protests have garnered national and international attention, with many focusing on the inaction of police in Ottawa to stop demonstrators from violating bylaws, laws and allegedly harassing Ottawa residents.The Ottawa police response to the trucker convoy’s ongoing demonstrations in the downtown core has been heavily criticized for a perceived lack of enforcement under Sloly’s leadership.Calling the protests “unprecedented,” Sloly has repeatedly said the service requires additional officers to end the demonstration.He said in the first week of the encampment that there “might not be a policing solution” to the protests and called for more support from provincial and federal sources.
