An expert in infectious diseases has shown concern about the number of children who remain absent from school weeks after Covid-19 infection.
Consultant in Infectious Diseases at St James's Hospital, Professor Cliona Ni Cheallaigh, said some children are not back at school potentially months after having the virus.
Prof Ni Cheallaigh said that although cases of children becoming very unwell with the virus are rare, more research is needed into the effects of 'long Covid'.
Her comments come as the latest data shows there are 627 people in hospital with Covid-19. This is a decrease of 19 on the previous day.
