PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Departments Shooting Investigation Group are working on learning more about a shooting that left a man injured early Friday morning. Authorities say the shooting took place on the 700 block of West Bristol Street in the city's Hunting Park neighborhood. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, a man believed to be between 30 and 35 years of age was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and both legs. Police transported him to Temple University Hospital, where he is listed din critical condition. Authorities say the investigation is active and ongoing. 

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating after a man was found inside a car in West Philadelphia injured from a shooting. According to authorities, police responded to 38th Street and Girard Avenue for reports of a person with a gun on Thursday night around 10:15 p.m.Officials say a 53-year-old man was found inside a Chrysler Pacifica suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, abdomen and left arm. The man was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition, according to police. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say the shooting took place near where the victim was located, on the 3800 block of Cambridge Street. The investigation is ongoing and active, police say.

PHILADELPHIA - A man was shot and killed during what police believe was a botched robbery attempt Thursday night in Philadelphia's Fairmount section. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 2700 block of Swain Street just before 9 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - An off-duty security guard has died after he was shot in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night. According to police, officers responded to 62nd and Market Streets just after 11:30 p.m. Authorities say they found a crime scene with evidence of a shooting and witnesses told authorities that someone was shot. The victim, 37, was driven to Mercy Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso, police say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, the man succumbed to his injuries. Authorities say 14 shots were fired in the shooting and investigators believe the man was sitting in a vehicle when a shooter walked up to the driver's door and fired multiple shots. The victim was a security guard at a bar on the 6100 block of Market Street, but authorities say he was off duty. This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in critical condition after police say he was shot at multiple times in North Philadelphia Tuesday night.Reports of gunshots were called into police on the 3200 block of West Allegheny Avenue around 9:33 p.m.The 34-year-old man was later found to be the victim of that shooting.

It revealed in a department of 6,000 officers, only 2,500 are on patrol and, stretched over 21 police districts, sometimes as few as 11 to 22 officers are on the street at any one time.In a late morning press conference, FOP President John McNesby said, "A lot of the stuff that’s in here, we’ve already been working to solve.

MOORESTOWN, N.J. - Moorestown Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying two people wanted in connection with an invasion of privacy offense at a Marshalls store last month.On Sunday, September 25, at around 3 p.m., police say a man was captured on surveillance video sneaking into the women's restroom inside the Marshalls on Route 38 in Moorestown. BURLINGTON CITY, N.J. - School officials at Burlington City High School say there was a heavy police presence at the school due to a threat that was made on Wednesday. Authorities say there was a threat of an act of violence from inside the school prior to dismissal. Students were briefly held at the school to give police time to secure the surrounding area, officials say. School was dismissed a short time after and officials say all students were released safely. The Criminal Investigation Division and school officials are actively investigating this situation.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are working to identify a suspect wanted in connection with the robbery of a Philadelphia Xfinity store. According to police, the robbery occurred on October 9 at 11:15 a.m.

BENSALEM, Pa. - The Bensalem Township Police Department is drafting a plan to combat car meetups after nearly 300 cars gathered at Neshaminy Mall over the weekend. According to police, the large number of cars gathered at the mall on Saturday around 11:30 p.m., more than three hours after the mall closed for the night. People gathered as vehicles did car tricks like burnouts and donuts in the middle of a crowd, authorities say. Officials say investigators learned the same group of vehicles was at the Oxford Valley Mall first before heading to Neshaminy Mall. After the group was dispersed, the cars then gathered at Willow Grove mall, according to police. "This has been a growing problem for many communities in Southeastern Pennsylvania," police said.

Deptford Township Police Department are investigating a car crash that left a man dead on Tuesday morning.  DEPTFORD TWP, N.J. - Deptford Township Police Department are investigating a car crash that left a man dead on Tuesday morning. Just before 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Clements Bridge Road, right along the Camden County border, for reports of a vehicle collision. Police say after they arrived, it was determined that a late model Honda Accord collided with two FedEx trucks. The driver of the Honda Accord, who authorities say is a 24-year-old man from Deptford Township, was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities say the identity of the victim is being withheld until family has been notified. This crash is actively being investigated and police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 856-845-2220, or email [email protected]. 

PHILADELPHIA - In a city struggling with violent crime, the Philadelphia City Controller’s Office has found that there are fewer police officers now than in recent years. "In total, we have over 640 fewer officers available for duty than we had 5 years ago," City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart explained in an interview with FOX 29’s Jeff Cole. Of the 6,000 Philadelphia police officers, Rhynhart reports on 2,500 are assigned to patrol the city’s streets. Broken down of 21 police districts, the controller’s office found that number left just 11 to 22 cops on the beat at any one time - per district - in a department budgeted at more than 750 million dollars at the time of the review.PPD Uniform Officer Staffing Levels (Philadelphia Office of the Controller) "That amount of money, when it comes down to it, there’s only 11 to 22 officers at any given time per district," Rhyhart said. "That feels outrageous in a city that is overrun with gun crime. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A person of interest in a homicide investigation in Oklahoma, where four friends went missing and were later found shot and severely dismembered in a river, was arrested in Central Florida Tuesday, according to police. Police in Okmulgee, a city located about 40 miles south of Tulsa, said Joe Kennedy was taken into custody in Daytona Beach Shores after being found in a vehicle that had been reported stolen Monday to the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office. The district attorney and the sheriff will begin the process of getting him back to Okmulgee County, where they will question him. A warrant was also issued for his arrest in an unrelated Okmulgee County case for an application to accelerate a judgement and sentence he received in relation to a shooting in 2012.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka Police and the Inter-University Student's Federation were engaged in a stand-off on Tuesday (18).The stand-off took place when the police decided to block the Colombo – Kandy main road to prevent a protest march from proceeding from the University of Kelaniya citing that 6-hour prior approval was not obtained.Multiple arrests were also made during the protest.Inter-University Student's Federation launched their protest march against suppression on a rainy Tuesday (18) afternoon.They demanded the release of the two student activists who are being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.They also emphasized to stop the repression immediately.But when the police informed that the march could not be allowed because permission was not obtained 6 hours prior, a heated situation arose. Then, as the students moved towards Colombo, the police announced to disperse immediately. The group protesting on the road in front of the university later attempted to proceed forward again. There the police announced to disperse for the second time and several people were arrested. A heated situation arose again when a couple riding a motorcycle on the road claimed to have shown support to the students. However, the students did not attempt to continue with today's march and dispersed after student activists addressed the gathering in front of Kelaniya University. 

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department's Shooting Investigation Group are searching for information regarding a shooting in North Philadelphia. Police released surveillance video of a shooting they say occurred on October 8 at 5:08 p.m. Authorities say a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in his left shoulder and lower back while driving on the 3300 block of North Philip Street. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe surveillance video shows the suspect walking up to the car as it drives down the street and firing shots into the driver's seat window. According to police, the victim was later treated at Temple Hospital and was listed in stable condition. Police are searching for thi suspect seen on surveillance video from a North Philadelphia shooting on N Philip Street.  Officials say part of the video shows the shooter unmasked moments before the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact Philadelphia police at 215-686-8477 or submit an anonymous tip online.

GLASSBORO, N.J. - A woman is facing attempted murder charges after police say she hopped a curb and struck three teen girls while trying to flee a large fight near a New Jersey apartment complex. Officers from the Glassboro Police Department were called to the Hollybush Apartment complex around 4:30 p.m.

Officials with the Coatesville Area School District say nearly 1,500 students were evacuated following a message that threatened the ignition of the school on Monday afternoon.  COATESVILLE, Pa. - Officials with the Coatesville Area School District say the Senior High School was evacuated after the safety of its students and staff were at risk following a threat that was made on Monday. Just after 8:30 a.m., officials with the district say they received a message indicating that an accelerant was placed in the Senior High School and that it would be ignited at noon. The Coatesville Area Senior High School and the Intermediate High School were placed on restrictive movement until local authorities decided to conduct a search using accelerant-detecting K9s, causing nearly 1,500 students to be evacuated. The Chester County Assistant Fire Marshall says that 1,400 students and 120 staff members were relocated to the football stadium as all backpacks remained inside the building to get swept by the K9s. As students and staff waited at the stadium, officials say another message was received indicating that there were weapons on campus. After about an hour in the stadium, officials say a series of fights broke out between different groups of students, resulting in a county-wide request for assistance.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia say a teenage suspect wanted in connection to the deadly shooting near Roxborough High School surrendered to police on Monday. Troy Fletcher, 15, had a lawyer present when he turned himself into homicide detectives on multiple charges, according to police. An arrest warrant for Fletcher was issued last week for multiple charges, including murder, in connection to the Sept. 27 shooting that claimed the life of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde and injured 4 others.Hours earlier, federal authorities increased an award for 16-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn by $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Suspect sought in fatal hit-and-run. PHILADELPHIA - A driver is wanted for a fatal hit-and-run in Philadelphia's Fox Chase section, and now police say they have the vehicle on camera.The 62-year-old victim was crossing Verree Road near Rhawn Street when he was hit by a speeding vehicle Friday night, according to police.Police say the vehicle, a blue Ford Edge, then dragged the man at least 100 feet.

PHILADELPHIA - A shooting rang out as police say suspects targeted their victims at a gas station in Philadelphia's East Mount Airy section early Sunday morning.Police found a 24-year-old man shot inside a car parked at the pumps of a Liberty gas station around 1:20 a.m. He suffered a gunshot wound to the back, but his condition is not known at this time.Two other passengers were also in the car, a 21-year-old woman who suffered cuts from the car's glass, and a 25-year-old who was not injured.MORE HEADLINES:Police say a passenger reached his arm out of the car's window, fired 14 shots, then fled the scene.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - As school safety takes center stages across the Delaware Valley, police say a male juvenile brought a loaded firearm to a football game for a Pennsylvania high school.Police spotted the reported runaway juvenile at the Bethlehem Area School District Stadium around 8:20 p.m. for a Friday night game.When officers attempted to check on his wellbeing, he became uncooperative and tried to flee on foot.

Fourth arrest made in H2O car rally in Wildwood. WILDWOOD, N.J. - A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged after the chaos of an unsanctioned car rally erupted on the streets of Wildwood and claimed the lives of two innocent people last month.Joshua Bocchino, 19, was wanted for assaulting a police officer during the H2Oi car rally that gathered in Wildwood on September 24.The unsanctioned car rally created chaotic scenes throughout the popular shore town, causing car crash, injuries, property damage and bridge closures.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that all should join together to solve the people’s food issues, casting traditional party politics aside.The President made this observation addressing the public officers at an awareness program on the multi-sector mechanism to empower rural economic revitalization centers to ensure food security and nutrition at Hardy Advanced Technological Institute Auditorium in Ampara this morning (15).The President further noted that no one would be allowed to starve despite the fact that the country is going through a very difficult time and pointed out the importance of successfully implementing the national food production program to prepare for a possible global food crisis in 2023.The president also said that the agriculture modernization program would be implemented from next year concurrent to the food security program.The implementation of the multi-sector mechanism to empower rural economic revitalization centers to ensure food security and nutrition in transforming the Ampara District also into a prosperous one with a blooming community was also discussed at length.The Ampara district contributes 22 percent to the national paddy harvest and discussions were also focused on making the paddy cultivation in the Yala and Maha seasons a success.It was also special feature that the President paid special attention to the issues faced by the government officials during the field work. The president was made aware of issues related to the agriculture and fisheries industry in the Ampara district and he directed the officials to address those issues.
