PHILADELPHIA - An encampment that was established to protest the sale of The University City Townhomes, one of the last remaining affordable housing units in West Philadelphia, has been shut down by police. On Friday, a Philadelphia judge said the encampment must be disassembled by Monday at 9 a.m., but residents said they would not budge as the city scrambled to find suitable alternatives. By Monday, the encampment was still set up as residents protested. Residents of an affordable housing unit in West Philadelphia are protesting the sale of the building by staying in an encampment on the property. Delhi NCR residents with symptoms are missing from officially reported case figures as they skip taking the Covid test or opt for at-home antigen test. The survey found that of those who had Covid symptoms in Delhi-NCR in the last 30 days, only 12% took a RT-PCR.  The survey was conducted in the past 30 days. HAVANA - Lightning struck a crude oil storage tank in the city of Matanzas, causing a spreading fire that led to four explosions which injured nearly 80 people and left 17 firefighters missing, Cuban authorities said Saturday.Firefighters and other specialists were still trying to quell the blaze at the Matanzas Supertanker Base, which began during a thunderstorm Friday night, the Ministry of Energy and Mines tweeted.The official Cuban News Agency said the lightning strike set one tank on fire and the blaze later spread to a second tank.The Facebook page of the provincial government of Matanzas said the number of injured had reached 77, while 17 people were missing. Reading YMCA READING, Pa. - A Hazmat situation at a Berks County YMCA caused over 10 people to be treated for respiratory and skin irritant reactions.Crews were called to the YMCA on Washington Street in Reading for a reported Hazmat situation.Officials said a mixture of chemicals created a gas which caused somewhere between 10 and 20 people to have mucus, irritation and rash reactions.According to authorities, some people were treated at a fire station, while two to three people were transferred to a nearby hospital.No one suffered life-threatening injuries.Crews are working to investigate the cause of the chemical mixture.

NATIONAL PARK, N.J. - Researchers believe they have uncovered in a mass grave in New Jersey the remains of as many as 12 Hessian soldiers who fought during the Revolutionary War, officials announced Tuesday.The remains, found at the site of Fort Mercer and the 1777 Battle of Red Bank, rested for 245 years until a human femur was found in June during an archaeologicall dig of a trench system that surrounded the fort, scientists said. Additional excavation yielded more skeletal remains and items including pewter and brass buttons and a King George III gold guinea, which would have been a soldier’s pay for a month.A team of scientists from Rowan University and officials from Gloucester County presented their preliminary findings during a news conference at Red Bank Battlefield Park, just south of Philadelphia.Officials believe the remains are part of a mass grave of Hessian soldiers — German troops hired by the British — who were part of about 377 troops killed by Colonial forces during the Battle of Red Bank.

PHILADELPHIA - A house where more than 150 one-gallon jugs filled with gasoline were found has caught on fire - the second time in the past several months.The jugs were reportedly found when police were called to the 100 block of North 59th Street Monday for complaints of a strong smell of gas.Upon entering the abandoned West Philadelphia home, officials say 154 one-gallon milk jugs full of gasoline were piled inside.On Tuesday morning, fire crews responded to the same home for a reported fire.SkyFOX was live over the scene where firefighters could be seen working on the scorched home, as well as its neighbor.FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports that the jugs were safely removed from house Monday night.This is reportedly the second time a fire has broken out inside the house.

Arnold DiBlasi, 71 BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. - Officials say a 71-year-old man was arrested after he was found with thousands of child sexual abuse materials.Arnold DiBlasi, of Marlton, is charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.DiBlasi, the former youth director at Holy Eucharist Parish in Cherry Hill, reportedly distributed more than 11,000 files of child sexual abuse material to 30 people.He was arrested at his home on July 26 after an investigation began in May.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting in Hunting Park. According to authorities, officers received a 911 call for gunshots and a shooting just before midnight on the 3800 block of N Fairhill Street. Police say a 32-year-old man was found lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his back and leg. Medics pronounced him dead at 12:06 a.m., authorities say. Chief Inspector Scott Small says seven spent shell casings were found a few feet away from the victim. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators believe the shooter was standing very close to the 32-year-old, according to officials. Police say two unattended parked cars were also struck by gunfire. According to authorities, a witness said three people wearing masks pulled up, walked to the victim and one of them shot the victim multiple times. The trio then got back in the car and fled north on the 3800 block of N Fairhill Street, per officials. Police say the investigation is active and ongoing. 

COVID-19 vaccination rates among Ontario’s urban Indigenous population were lower compared with the general population despite priority rollout, according to a new study.The research published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) on Tuesday found that between March 2020 and December 2021, the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine uptake for First Nations, Inuit and Métis people living in Toronto and London, Ont., was 20 per cent lower than the overall population.However, the study also showed that COVID-19 testing rates in the two cities were 10 per cent higher among the Indigenous community compared with local and provincial rates.
