The number of patients with coronavirus in hospital has fallen to 378, according to figures from the Department of Health. This is a reduction of 34 patients from yesterday.

There are 39 patients being treated in intensive care with the virus, an increase of three since yesterday. In a statement, the department said that 980 PCR-confirmed Covid-19 cases have been notified and 1,020 positive antigen tests were registered through the HSE portal.

People have been advised to socialise safely for the bank holiday weekend, and to isolate if they show Covid-19 symptoms. The department continues to advise people to wear face coverings on public transport and in healthcare settings.

It also said that it will no longer publish daily Covid-19 figures, and that all information relating to the epidemiology of Covid-19 will be overseen by the HSE, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and the National Virus Reference Laboratory. Read more coronavirus stories
