BRIGANTINE, N.J. - A mother's selflessness was on full display in Brigantine after she rescued her children from the ocean at Brigantine beach before becoming overpowered by the current. According to the Brigantine Police Department, police and firefighters received a 911 call for a swimmer in distress on Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. When first responders arrived on scene, the Brigantine City Beach Patrol had rescued two children and pulled a 28-year-old woman from the water, authorities say.Medics and police immediately began taking life-saving measures on the woman, per police. According to officials, the children were evaluated and reunited with family as the woman was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where she is in critical condition. Authorities say an investigation revealed the woman's children were swimming in the ocean and became overpowered by the current. Witnesses told police the woman ran into the ocean to rescue her children but then became distressed and disappeared under the water, officials say. A person who witnessed the incident dialed 911, according to authorities. "Because of the mother's selfless actions and the witness immediately seeking help, the children were able to be rescued by Brigantine Beach Patrol who were training prior to their shift on a beach nearby," police said in a Facebook post.No additional information about the incident was released. 

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are searching for the suspect accused of shooting two people in Kensington earlier this month. According to police, officers with SEPTA Transit Police and the Philadelphia Police Department responded to a shooting on the 2900 block of Kensington Avenue just before 1 a.m.

YUMA, Ariz. - An Arizona woman was stuck in a canal near Yuma for 18 hours after she tried to rescue her dog who fell in on June 6.She held onto dear life as help arrived just before she was about to give up. A train conductor luckily saw her and called for help.The canal current is strong and fast, making the 18-hour fight for her and her 50-pound dog's life nearly impossible while holding onto a tree.The 12-foot embankment was so steep they couldn’t get out."The will to survive is what makes this a great story," says Sgt. Juan Salcido with Wellton Police, who was first on the scene to assist her and pull her and her dog out of the canal.The conductor who saw the woman and her dog was in the eighth train that went by that day."Her body told the story of her constant fight.

Police looking for group of suspects in string of high-end vehicle thefts in New Jersey AVALON, N.J. - High-end vehicles have become the target of a recent crime operation in at least one Jersey Shore town.Police say they received reports that four high-end vehicles were stolen in Avalon during the early morning hours Tuesday.Surveillance footage shows five suspects police are looking for in connection to the thefts.

Former escaped convict Casey White has been charged with felony murder in the death of former jail guard Vicki White, who assisted him in a shocking escape attempt earlier this year.Vicki, 56, was believed to have taken her own life rather than be apprehended by police following a car chase with authorities. It is unclear whether the new charges against Casey indicate a change in that fact pattern.Casey and Vicki crossed multiple state lines together before the car chase in Indiana.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a man was fatally stabbed in Kensington early Tuesday morning. According to authorities, officers with the Philadelphia Police Department responded to the 2400 block of Kensington Avenue for a report of a person with a weapon around 2:47 a.m. Police say a 69-year-old man was located with a stab wound to the chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESHe was transported to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m., according to officials. Authorities say the investigation is active and ongoing.

WILMINGTON, Del. - Young people are fearing for their safety as they live through an epidemic of gun violence. Now, kids are calling on their local leaders to do something to keep them safe in their neighborhoods. Children in Wilmington, Delaware, pleaded for help as they held signs that detailed the trauma that gun violence causes them during a peace rally on Monday night at Rodney Square in downtown Wilmington. "I’m tired of having to walk somewhere and then stay on my guard," said one teen.Justin Dye, a 14-year-old who is a part of the Stop the Violence Prayer Chain Foundation, helps young people deal with the loss of a loved one due to gun or domestic violence. "I can’t even walk to school.

PHILADELPHIA - An appeals court has ordered a new trial for a New Jersey man convicted in a stabbing death shortly after the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018.The court cited an assistant prosecutor's repeatedly calling the defendant a liar and also cited errors in the judge's instructions to the jury.Supreme Life, 60, of Lumberton was sentenced to 20 years after he was convicted in Burlington County in March 2019 of passion provocation manslaughter in the death of Moriah Walker, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the attempted murder of another New York man.Life, formerly known as Charles Hoskins, testified that as people were outside celebrating the Eagles’ February 2018 win, he teased his son, a Dallas Cowboys fan, and his son responded with an epithet about the Eagles. He said two New York men leaving a nearby party overheard the remark and attacked his son, and he acted in self-defense.During the trial, Life acknowledged having lied in a statement to police, and the appeals court said that was fair game for prosecutors to point out.

TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey Police say a four-month investigation led to the "dismantling" of a human trafficking network and the arrest of six suspects.Eleven female victims, including at least one juvenile, were smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico and forced into prostitution, according to police.The investigation began in January when officials reportedly obtained information that a juvenile was being trafficked out of a residence in Trenton.

Man wanted for theft in Point Breeze. PHILADELPHIA - Surveillance video caught a man in the middle of crime on a Philadelphia street in broad daylight, according to police.Police say the man broke into the window of a parked van on the 1800 block of Washington Avenue last month.The suspect is seen entering the van, removing what appears to be tools, then loading them into his pickup truck.

TRENTON, N.J. - Gas prices have taken a double-digit drop in New Jersey and around the nation primarily due to lower demand, according to analysts. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey on Friday was $4.75, down 10 cents from last week. Drivers were paying $3.16 a gallon on average a year ago at this time. The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.72, down 12 cents from last week. Drivers were paying $3.14 a gallon on average a year ago at this time.

LOGAN - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that critically wounded a 30-year-old man.Officials say 35th District officers were called to the 1200 block of West Wingohocking Street, around 5:15 p.m., in Philadelphia's Logan section, on the report of a person shot.Witnesses described a black SUV idling on West Wingohocking about 20 minutes. One of the witnesses called police about the idling vehicle.At about that time, the vehicle moved forward at a slow rate of speed and within 200 feet or so, sideswiped a parked vehicle.

Phil Murphy will provide $2 billion in property tax relief for homeowners and rebates for renters.Under the new ANCHOR or Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters program, which replaces the Homestead Benefit program, more than 1.15 million homeowners will receive credit toward their property taxes. More than 900,000 renters, who were never a part of the Homestead program, will receive rebate checks.The benefits were phased in beginning July 1 instead of over three years so that checks could be mailed sooner.Get breaking news alerts in the free FOX5NY News app!  |  Sign up for FOX 5 email newslettersFor the more than 870,000 homeowners across the state with a household income of under $150,000, a $1,500 property tax benefit will be applied each year.For the more than 290,000 homeowners with a household income of between $150,000 and $250,000, a $1,000 property tax benefit will be applied each year.And the more than 900,000 renters with incomes of up to $150,000, will receive checks each year of $450 to help offset rent increases caused by increasing property taxes.Based on the budget, a middle-class family receiving $1,500 in ANCHOR relief will see their average property burden reduced to a level not seen since 2012.  After days of delays, lawmakers in Albany have reached a deal in principle on the New York State budget.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are searching for a group of teenagers caught on video attacking a driver before stealing his car in Olney. According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday on the 600 block of West Fisher Avenue in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood. Authorities say the victim was sitting inside his 2007 Hyundai Elantra when he was approached by the group. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe group began to assault the man and he was able to get out of the car with minor injuries, according to investigators. Police say the group then drove off in the man's car towards 10th street. Video surveillance released by Philadelphia police appears to show several teens surrounding the victim's car and two of them appear to hit and kick the victim. Authorities have not specifically said the number of suspects they are looking for, but they did specify the group was comprised of teenagers. Police say no weapons were used during the robbery and anyone with information is urged to call police or submit an anonymous tip.
